Charley has served on our Chamber Board for 11 years and is a big supporter and organizer of our annual Christmas parade.
Charles (Charley) Peters was elected United Postmasters and Managers of America Retired (UPMA Retired) National Vice President at their annual National Convention on August 18, 2021, to serve from November 1, 2021 to October 31, 2023. In this position Charley will represent a national retiree membership of more than 8000 members. He is currently serving as UPMA Retired National Treasurer, a position he was elected to in 2018, and will assume his new position as National Vice President Retired on November 1. He has been active in the organization since his first Postmaster appointment in 1978 at Liberty KY, As an active Postmaster and then as a Retiree, he has served in various KY Chapter positions to include President (both Active and Retired), and served as State Editor for several years. On the national level, he has served as Editor of the National Postmaster Gazette, Recording Secretary, membership co-chair, hospitality co-chair, and retiree treasurer. Charley served as Monticello’s Postmaster from 1987 to 1999, and then served 5 years as Manager Post Office Operations for Southeastern KY. He was then appointed Somerset’s Postmaster in 2004, where he retired from in 2009, after a 35 year career with the United States Postal Service.
His wife, Anita, has served for many years as pianist for the opening Church Service at the National Conventions.
